It was later named Garza when the Dallas and Wichita Railway came through in 1881, and then officially became Lake Dallas in the late 1920s. Initially a separate lake, Lake Dallas was later combined with the larger Lewisville Lake, a sprawling reservoir covering nearly 29,000 acres with over 230 miles of shoreline and is sometimes referred to as the “Urban Bass Fishing Capital of Texas.” Over the years, Lake Dallas has evolved from a rural community to a more developed suburb, with steady population growth and increasing residential and recreational amenities. Lake Dallas offers a wide range of activities, including boating, fishing, swimming and camping.
